A staggering 85.7% of you said your board avoids fundraising due to lack of confidence. But here's a hard truth: confidence comes from clarityβand clarity starts with leadership. If your board isn't confident, ask yourself: Have I given them the tools, language, and support they need to succeed?
It's easy to assume reluctance means resistance, but often it just means they don't know where to begin. Fundraising is a skillβnot an instinct. And just like staff, board members need training, modeling, and encouragement.
Don't wait for your board to "get it." Lead them there. Create space for growth through practice, positive reinforcement, and celebrating small wins along the way.
Pro tip: Share a weekly board buzz email with a fundraising success story that highlights how a board member contributed (even in non-asking ways). These consistent examples build confidence by showing what success actually looks like.
Need support shifting your board from frozen to fearless? That's exactly what I can help with.
