If you’re among the 50% who’ve put fundraising expectations in writing—great start! But a document alone doesn’t drive action. Follow-through is where alignment happens. Bring that policy to life by reviewing it annually, offering practical ways to engage, and celebrating board wins that align with those expectations.
For the 37.5% who haven’t clearly communicated expectations yet—it’s time. Clarity creates confidence. Start with a simple board commitment form, a brief conversation at the next meeting, or a dedicated training session.
Remember: most board members want to help but need to know what "helping" actually looks like. The key is matching their skills with meaningful opportunities to advance your mission's financial health.
Pro tip: Pro tip: Create quarterly "fundraising moments" in board meetings where members can share successes, challenges, and lessons learned—this normalizes fundraising as an ongoing conversation rather than an occasional obligation.
